Text Counter Pro — Advanced Character Analyzer

A basic character counter tells you how many letters are in your text. A text analysis tool tells you whether those letters are doing their job. Are your sentences too long? Is your keyword density helping or hurting? Will a reader make it to the end or bounce at paragraph three?

Keynou's text counter pro combines character-level precision with readability scoring, keyword density, and sentence structure analysis. It exports CSV and PDF reports. Free, browser-based, no signup. This guide covers every metric and how to use the results to write better content.

What Text Counter Pro Measures

The text counter pro reports two layers of metrics: raw counts and quality analysis.

Raw Counts

  • Characters with and without spaces
  • Byte size (UTF-8)
  • Words, sentences, paragraphs, lines
  • Unique words
  • Syllable count

Quality Analysis

  • Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level
  • Gunning Fog Index
  • Average sentence length and longest sentence
  • Long sentence percentage
  • Keyword density for top 10 terms
  • Passive voice heuristic
  • Estimated reading and speaking time

Everything updates live. You see the impact of every edit instantly.

Readability Metrics That Matter

Readability formulas turn prose into a number you can act on. The tool reports three of the most widely used.

Flesch Reading Ease (0–100)

Higher is easier. Web content should target 60–70. Below 30 is academic-grade dense. The lever that moves this score most is sentence length — cut a 35-word sentence in half and watch the score jump.

Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level

Reports the U.S. grade level needed to understand the text. Aim for grade 7–9 for general web audiences. Technical content can run higher, but only if the audience expects it.

Gunning Fog Index

Estimates years of formal education required. It penalizes long sentences and words with three or more syllables. A fog index of 10 means a high school senior can read it comfortably.

Keyword Density for SEO

The tool extracts your top 10 terms and shows their density — the percentage of total words each term occupies. This is the metric SEO writers check before publishing.

Healthy Density Ranges

  • Primary keyword: 0.5%–1.5%. Enough to signal relevance without triggering spam filters.
  • Secondary terms: Natural variation. No fixed target.
  • Above 2.5%: Flagged as potential stuffing. Rewrite to dilute.

The tool highlights any term crossing 2% so you can catch over-optimization before Google does. For a deeper word-level breakdown, the word counter pro offers the same density analysis with additional sentence metrics.

Sentence Structure Analysis

Sentence-level metrics are where most readability gains come from. The tool reports:

  • Average sentence length: Target 15–20 words for web content.
  • Longest sentence: Flagged so you can find and split it.
  • Long sentence percentage: Sentences over 25 words. Keep below 15%.
  • Passive voice candidates: Heuristic detection of "was/is/are + past participle" patterns.

A typical fix sequence: find the longest sentence, split it into two, re-run the analysis. Average length drops, long-sentence percentage drops, Flesch score rises. Three minutes of editing, measurable improvement.

Export Capabilities

Analysis is only useful if you can share it. The tool exports two formats:

CSV Export

Every metric in a single spreadsheet row. Paste multiple articles' rows into one sheet to compare readability across a content library. Useful for content audits and client reporting.

PDF Export

A formatted report with your text and all metrics. Attach it to a draft submission or archive it as a quality record. The PDF generates in the browser — no server, no watermark, no account.

Use Cases

SEO Content Optimization

Before publishing, run your draft through the tool:

  1. Check Flesch Reading Ease is 60–70.
  2. Verify primary keyword density is 0.5%–1.5%.
  3. Confirm long-sentence percentage is under 15%.
  4. Export a PDF for your content audit trail.

This takes under two minutes and catches issues that would otherwise hurt rankings.

Content Audits at Scale

Paste older articles into the tool one by one, exporting CSV for each. Load the rows into a spreadsheet and sort by readability score. The bottom quartile is your refresh priority — simplifying those articles often improves both dwell time and search performance.

Editor–Writer Collaboration

Writers can attach a PDF report to a draft submission. Editors review the metrics before reading, which focuses feedback on structural issues (sentence length, density) rather than subjective preferences. It speeds up the review cycle.

Compliance and Accessibility

Healthcare and legal content must meet readability standards. SMOG and Flesch-Kincaid grade levels are the metrics compliance teams check. The tool reports both, and the PDF export documents compliance for audits.

Pro vs Basic: Which to Use

The basic text counter handles character counts, byte size, and line counts. It's the right tool for database field validation, SMS segmentation, and meta description limits.

Reach for the pro version when quality matters — readability, keyword density, sentence structure, exportable reports. Both are free. For word-focused analysis, the word counter pro covers the same ground from a word-counting perspective.

Analyze Your Text Free

Keynou's text counter pro is free, runs in your browser, and requires no signup. Paste your text, read the metrics, export a report. For basic counts, use the text counter; for word-level analysis, try the word counter pro.
