QR code color contrast is the difference in luminance between the dark modules and the light background. It's what lets a phone camera tell the dots apart from the space around them.   • Pastel-on-pastel — looks soft and modern but rarely scans

Inverted codes (white dots on a dark background) are technically valid but inconsistently supported. Some modern scanners handle them; many budget and older devices do not. Avoid inverted designs unless you can test across a wide device range.
